ONE!!

Dan and Linda came into town on Robert's birthday, which was Tuesday. Because he started running a fever that day, we didn't do much. I made stew and then after dinner he opened presents. He wasn't real interested in the packages which astonished me. I usually can't keep him out of anything in this house, but he didn't want anything to do with the gifts. Linda will have to send me some pictures because I didn't take any. (She also needs to send the wonderful picture she took of the four of us that's posted on her blog.)

His party was planned for Friday morning and we were going to have several friends join us for it. We got him a ride on car for his birthday so I decided to make his party car themed. His invitations had a car on them and I even bought the 3-d car cake pan and was going to attempt it (with Linda's help, that way I couldn't be held completely responsible if it looked atrocious).

When he woke with a fever Thursday morning, we called everyone to cancel. I was so sad to have to cancel his first birthday party. Linda and I took him to the doctor Friday morning and then I sent Chris out to pick up a few balloons and some ready made icing. I whipped up some cupcakes, (which looked atrocious and didn't taste much better), we lit his "1" candle, sang Happy Birthday and he dug into his cupcake. He wanted to share his sweet treat with everyone.

It wasn't what I had envisioned for my sweet baby boy's big day, but we had Grandma and Grandpa and cake, so it turned out to be pretty close to perfect just the way it was.
