Am I the only person who goes out and splurges on payday? Chris and I keep a very tight budget as we're trying to pay off all of our debt, so we don't get much personal spending money. The money that is budgeted for me and Clara to spend as "we" choose is gone on the first day of the month usually because I know months in advance what it's going to buy.
I also tend to do a little splurging on non-essentials that first day or two. My splurge this month? Well, after we went to see Santa on Friday, Clara and I hit Hobby Lobby and a dollar store. I needed to pick up a few things for her birthday party. At the dollar store, I bought a pair of reindeer antlers for the dogs and a can of pringles. I also stopped by Sonic and got a Vanilla Dr. Pepper on the way home. That was my splurge for December. A whopping $3.50!
While we were in line to check out at the dollar store, I told Clara that these were reindeer antlers for the dogs. She put them on and started barking. Ummm, ok. So now she puts them on and crawls around on the floor barking like a reindeer.
And then Saturday morning while Chris and Clara were at breakfast, I braved the crowds and headed to Wal-Mart. Since we're having family here for Christmas, there were a few things I needed to pick up. I bought a butter dish. We've been married for almost ten years now and have never owned a butter dish so I felt it was time. I also bought a spatula. We actually have 3 spatulas, but two of them are only half a spatula. One just broke a few weeks ago; the other has been broken, but continuously used, for probably five years. I felt it was time to retire the halfies. I bought several other things, but won't bore you with the details. The butter dish and spatula stories have filled my quota for boring details in this particular post.
While I'm on the topic of shopping, I don't know what the deal was on Friday, but everywhere we went that morning was jam packed. Why on earth were there 20 people in line at the same time in Hobby Lobby at 11 am on a weekday? They had 5 registers open. At Hobby Lobby! When we left the mall before 11, the parking lot was almost full. Toys R Us was packed too. Hello people, shouldn't you be working??

Clara has had a couple of really bad food reactions on her face this past week. Earlier in the week, I gave her pasta with some sauce on it. She pretty much painted her face with the sauce while my back was turned and her whole face was red and swollen. And then today after a lunch that consisted only of fruit and a few chips, she looked just as bad. She was rubbing her eyes before I cleaned them off, so she probably got fruit juice all in them. Poor girl.
I'm going to bring a couple of the pictures I've taken of her after meals to her two year checkup and make sure it's nothing to be concerned about.
