Yesterday and Today

So I've been informed by a couple of people that I should write more consistently because they need something to read because for some reason unbeknownst to me, they think my blog is somewhat entertaining. Yeah, they're just entertained by the misery inflicted upon me by my terrible (almost) two.

The problem is, I don't always have much to write about, like today, but I shall try. Yesterday, Clara and I ventured out to a different library for storytime. This library is newer and much nicer. Their children's librarian subbed for ours several months ago and I found her to be a little odd, but I figured I'd try out her library anyway. Why, you ask? Because it's FREE entertainment!

Everyone poured into the children's area and we filled up the entire room. There had to have been 40 kids in there with their parents. Unlike our library though, the parents sat on the floor with the kids. I kind of like for her to sit without me to give her a little independence. I mean she is no more than 10 feet away from me every single day, all day long. The really odd thing was that every single child sat absolutely still for storytime. What on earth. Did we miss the drug laced kool aid these toddlers obviously consumed beforehand?

Then it started. Oh my gosh, this woman annoyed the ever living crud out of me. She was like a middle aged Barney without the costume. She said in an over-the-top exaggerated tone, "Hi kids, I'm so glad you joined me for TODDLERTIME!!!!!!!" All the while her face is frozen in this creepy smile, arms flailing. I really wish I'd gotten it on tape because I cannot accurately convey through words the annoyance factor. The songs started and they were even worse. I was looking around the room to see if this was the normal fare and parents and kids alike are intently watching her, singing along, doing the hand movements. I think Clara even noticed there was something not quite right about the woman.

I'm sure this lady is very nice and she obviously loves her job, so I shouldn't fault her for that. I just don't get why people think they have to act like an idiot to be entertaining to a child. This is why I don't want Clara watching Barney or The Wiggles or Teletubbies or anything else that's just waay over the top. Besides the fact that it's an insult to my sensibilities, it's just plain obnoxious. And for those that don't think there's anything wrong with watching them, there's not. And while that certainly may be, I also don't think she's going to suffer irreparable damage because she's never been entertained by the big purple dinosaur. But that may just be me.

And Chris.

Anyway, where was I? Oh, she was about to start reading the story and Clara really got squirmy and was trying to walk up to the librarian like she does at her storytime. She was not having me keep her still, so we had to get up. There was a woman who had gotten up with her 18 month old right before storytime even started and I talked with her for awhile. It was her first time as well and when her daughter started whining a little, she figured she would settle down when things got started, but some of the parents gave her "the look" so she went ahead and left the room.

While we were standing there talking, Clara went to one of the shelves and brought a book over to me to read to her entitled, "I Wish Daddy Didn't Drink So Much", which gave us a good chuckle.

I bought Clara a pumpkin at the grocery store, which she loved. We played with play doh later that afternoon. At three different points in the day, Dingle (I'm assuming), ate a pumkin stem, half a tub of red play doh (I know she ate the play doh; it was while I was cleaning it off of Clara) and three crayons.

Fast forward several hours. I was making dinner when Chris said he wasn't feeling good. He was lying on the couch asking me to get him a blanket. As we sat down to eat, I went upstairs, turned the air up, got him a sweatshirt and the thermometer. He wasn't running a fever but was visibly shaking he was so cold. He went to bed early and was feeling better today. Weird, huh?

Clara and I hit our good 'ol library this a.m. after missing the previous two weeks. She needed some Miss Terry time. Miss Terry let her sit in her lap for one story and she helped her lead a couple of songs. Ahhh, there's no place like home.

Here she is before storytime. We get to the library early to pick out our books to check out. Because Clara arbitrarily pulls books off the shelf with no intention of reading them, and because there is a sign that states "please do not reshelve books" and we all know that if I see something in print, it's the law, even though I've worked in a bookstore and a library and am fully capable of reshelving said books properly, I sit her down in the reading nook that has plenty of board books for the little ones to peruse while I go pick out a few books for her. I looked over to check on her and saw her just chillin' reading her book. (The festive outfit is courtesy of her Aunt Linsey and Aunt Tanya, who I believe purchase outfits such as this simply to make Chris cringe.) It's hard to see, but the skirt is cheetah print with cats all over it. She did receive numerous compliments on her Halloween garb.

After lunch we hit Michael's with our 40% coupon. I got Clara a big magnetic dry erase board for her playroom. She's getting magnetic letters for her birthday, so I thought this would be perfect. I gave her some magnets to play with and she loved it. I also got me this "canvas" art print. It was on sale for $15.

I couldn't pass up such a great deal because my living room walls look like this. Someday I'll figure out what curtains and decor to put up and find a bunch of money to purchase them with.

Fast forward several hours. I was feeling slightly ill by lunchtime. I took a nap while Clara napped and woke up with a killer headache and a tad bit of nausea. After some dinner (at Whataburger since I felt like poo and there was no way I was preparing anything more complicated than cereal), I felt quite a bit better and just have a dull headache now. I've had a sore throat for about a week now, but it hasn't developed into anything more, so let's hope it stays that way.

Love to hear about your adventurous and busy Clara! Looks like there's lots to look forward to; however, glad we're still taking long naps and not into everything!
